Student affairs provide a wide array of exemplary programs that support the teaching/learning process and increase opportunities for students to define and reach their educational and career goals.

The Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs is responsible for leadership and supervision of all areas of ACC’s student services:

Dr. Shasta Buchanan

Dr. Shasta Buchanan serves as ACC’s Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs. In this role she works collaboratively across the college to ensure student success in and beyond the classroom. Her work includes ensuring all students have access to a great education, are engaged and have a student experience that enables them to persist and timely complete a degree or certificate to unlock their future goals.

Previously Dr. Buchanan served as Associate Vice President of College and High School Relations at ACC where she increased dual credit enrollment and expanded partnerships with local school districts and businesses.

Dr. Buchanan has more than 20 years of higher education experience as a student affairs and enrollment management administrator, spanning many institutions in Texas, which include Texas A&M University, The University of Texas at Dallas, Texas Tech University, University of North Texas at Dallas, and Portland Community College (Portland, Oregon). Additionally, she is known for her work in enrollment management and has been recognized by Ruffalo Noel Levitz for student success and degree completion in her development of the Century Scholar Program at Texas A&M University (which also was recognized by the Department of Education/Office of Civil Rights).

All of my commitments center on of advancing any person to reach their highest potential—whether a student enrolls in college directly from high school, an adult returns to education to upskill, a first generation student enrolls, or a student who just needs a second chance—my commitment is unwavering to continue to transform education to be study-ready.

Dr. Shasta Buchanan

Currently, Dr. Buchanan serves as a board member for American YouthWorks, Communities in Schools, The University of Texas Elementary School, National Ambassador for the College in High School Alliance Network, council member for Business and Industry with Austin Partners in Education, council member of the Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership Council through the National Association of Community College Entrepreneurship (NACCE), and a member of the Advisory Committee for the National Student Clearinghouse. 

Dr. Buchanan received her Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics from Texas A&M University (WHOOP!), her Master of Science in Organizational Leadership from Our Lady of the Lake University, and her Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership – Higher Education Administration from Grand Canyon University. She enjoys spending her time with her husband Scott, Sr., and their two major contributions to this world: their son and daughter.

In addition, the Vice Chancellor is also responsible for the development of policies, procedures, programs, and services in accordance with the latest research and in participation with relevant state and national initiatives/agencies that will promote, encourage, and support student success.
