Bond project construction updates: Highland and Rio Grande

ACC continues to make progress on $386 million in capital improvement projects approved by ACC District voters in the November 2014 bond election. In 2018, the college celebrated expanding to Leander with the opening of San Gabriel Campus and held grand openings for three new buildings on Elgin, Hays, and Round Rock campuses. Progress continues on Phase 2 of the Highland Mall redevelopment and the renovation of the Rio Grande campus. Both are expected to be completed in summer 2020. Read summaries below and stay-up-to-date on each project through the ACC Bond Construction Projects website.

Highland Phase 2: Lower-level Progress
Phase 2, which will add 415,000 square feet of flexible advanced facilities, features a creative digital media center, a health sciences/STEM regional simulation center, continuing education and workforce centers, and a culinary arts and hospitality management center with a student-operated restaurant. Crews are about 50 percent complete on a number of lower-level projects including mechanical/electrical/plumbing overhead and interior wall framing. Steel construction also is approximately 50 percent complete. Roofing installation is now underway. The metal roof deck is approximately 50 percent installed and air handling units in the three rooftop penthouses will be installed by end of January.

Rio Grande Renovation: Demolition Continues
Construction crews are finalizing demolition of interior sections, most recently working on structural floor demolition. In addition, crews are installing hydronic piping and a new roof at the chiller house. In January, crews will continue floor demo and work on duct hangers and top track.
